The B-2 Spirit is a United States Air Force (USAF) low-observable stealth bomber capable of delivering both conventional and nuclear payloads.¹ Its reduced radar visibility is achieved through a combination of reduced infrared, acoustic, and electromagnetic signatures.²

The aircraft’s design traces back to earlier US stealth aircraft programmes. The HAVE Blue program, the F-117 Nighthawk, and TACIT Blue laid the technical foundations that led to the later development of the B-2 Spirit.³

The B-2 Spirit was first publicly displayed on 1988-11-22 in California Palmdale.⁴ It conducted its first flight on 1989-07-17,⁵ and the first aircraft was delivered to the USAF on 1993-12-17.⁶

A single B-2 Spirit costs over one billion United States dollars.⁷
