Northrop Grumman is a major United States defence contractor.1 Its corporate history includes the acquisition of TRW Inc., which was eventually purchased by Northrop Grumman.2 David Fravor has said that he considers Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing to be the big three companies in the US defence industry.3
In the mid-2000s Northrop Grumman competed for NASA’s Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) contract. By March 2006, indications pointed to Northrop Grumman and Boeing winning the initial CEV contract.4 That same month NASA directed Lockheed Martin to redesign its CEV proposal to more closely resemble an Apollo-style capsule similar to Northrop Grumman’s concept.5 Lockheed Martin’s proposal called for a new suite of avionics requiring extensive technological development, whereas Northrop Grumman’s proposal emphasised existing, proven electronics.6 When final designs were submitted in May 2006, Northrop Grumman officials were confident their proposal had surpassed the Lockheed Martin design.7
According to the Report on the Historical Record of U.S. Government Involvement with Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), Volume I, the RQ-4 Global Hawk, built by Northrop Grumman, is the largest unmanned aerial system (UAS) in operation by the United States Air Force (USAF).8
Luis Elizondo has written that senior officials named Lockheed Martin, TRW Inc., McDonnell Douglas, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, BAE Systems, and the Aerospace Corporation as aerospace and defence companies involved in the Legacy Program, an alleged effort to retrieve and reverse-engineer crash materials.9 Separately, UAP Gerb has said there are allegations that Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and Northrop Grumman established their own retrieval and recovery activities, self-funded through Independent Research and Development (IRAD) funds.10 Harold E. Puthoff has said he has come across similar allegations regarding self-funded retrieval and recovery activities by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company and Northrop Grumman.11
