Chris

Chris is a name that recurs across three unconnected accounts: a young man reported to have died in a car accident and to have later communicated through a medium, a boy said to have interacted for years with a house apparition named Lois, and the narrator of a 2024 analysis of drone footage from a Quebec wildlife encounter.

Three distinct accounts feature a person named Chris. In a reading conducted by Laura Lynne Jackson, she heard the name Chris and told her sitter, Paul, that someone by that name was present.1 Jackson was struck by how specific and intimate the details were, concerning mainly Paul’s girlfriend rather than Paul, which she found confusing.2 Paul confirmed the details as accurate and identified Chris as his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.3 Paul said that his girlfriend had been in the car with Chris when it crashed, and that Chris died in the crash.4 According to the reading, Chris was giving Paul his blessing for the relationship with his former girlfriend.5 When Paul confirmed the reading’s accuracy, Jackson felt a chill and a sense of awe, questioning whether she was hearing a dead man as clearly as if he were in her apartment.6

A separate case, recorded by the parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach, concerns a different Chris. Auerbach wrote that Chris told him he had been seeing the apparition of Lois almost every day for more than a year and a half, since he first waved back at her.7 Auerbach described Chris as a twelve-year-old boy who related the history of Lois, her family, and the house, saying he had learned it from her.8 Some of what Chris relayed about Lois’s family and activities outside the house went beyond what could be explained by psychometric perception of the house alone.9

During a visit to the house, the group sat in a semicircle facing Chris, who sat next to an empty easy chair he identified as Lois’s favourite spot, in order to ask her questions.10 Chris functioned as a medium during the sitting, translating Lois’s answers, though he was not in any kind of trance mediumship state.11 Auerbach said that Pat considered whether Chris had found and memorised diaries that could account for his knowledge of Lois, but could not imagine how that would be possible.12 Auerbach wrote that an elderly cousin of Lois’s later verified as true the information about her youth, life, family, and house that Chris had provided.13 The information Chris supplied was recorded on tape before any attempt was made to verify it.14 In several instances, when Auerbach began recounting a family anecdote to the cousin, she finished the story in a way that matched what Chris had given.15 Auerbach said Pat carried out thorough checks for diaries or other papers Lois might have left behind, and none was ever found.16

Auerbach recorded that, through Chris, Lois asked Joanna Rix whether she had really thought about the kind of job she wanted after leaving her current one.17 He recorded that Lois, through Chris, also asked Kip Leyser how long he had been a professional dancer.18 Auerbach concluded that either Chris or Lois had read the group’s minds while at the house, or that Lois was genuinely present, and that telepathy by either would be a reasonable explanation.19 He considered the perceptual insertion explanation of apparitions plausible: that Lois was aware she was projecting into Chris’s mind what to perceive, rather than being seen or heard directly.20 Given corroborating witnesses to Lois manifesting visually, and Chris’s lack of any other psychic perceptions, Auerbach judged an interacting apparition more likely than Chris being a super-psychic accessing information through clairvoyance or retrocognition.21 The family involved were well adjusted and had no psychological difficulties over the recurring visits.22 Chris continued to see Lois daily for a while but lost interest as he grew up and discovered real girls.23 Auerbach considered the verified information from the case sufficient to rule out normal sources of information.24

A further Chris appears as narrator in a 2024 analysis of drone and camera footage recorded by Jesse DeLuca, a wildlife filmmaker from Quebec, Canada, discussing the 2024 Quebec drone encounter.25 The footage, captured on a DJI Mini 3 Pro, was recorded in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.26 In the encounter, the object travelled from roughly 400 to 500 metres away to right beside the drone within about two seconds.27 At half playback speed, it covers the field and shoots away in about four seconds.28 Chris said the object’s movement, once near the ground, resembled an insect grazing or hanging out rather than a bird’s natural flight trajectory.29 The DJI Mini 3 Pro does not record audio.30

  2. Jackson was struck by how specific and intimate the details were, mostly about Paul's girlfriend rather than Paul.
“She was astonished by how specific and intimate the details were, coming from Chris, mainly about Paul’s girlfriend rather than Paul, which confused her even more.”
    Surviving Death ch26:7346-7504
  3. Paul confirmed the details as accurate and identified Chris as his girlfriend's former boyfriend.
“Eventually, Paul told her that all the details were accurate, and that Chris was his girlfriend’s former boyfriend.”
    Surviving Death ch26:7510-7615
  4. Paul said his girlfriend had been in the car with Chris when it crashed, and Chris died in the crash.
“Paul’s girlfriend had been in the car with Chris when it crashed, and Chris died.”
    Surviving Death ch26:7626-7702
  5. The reading conveyed Chris giving Paul his blessing for the relationship with his ex-girlfriend.
“Chris was giving Paul his blessing for the relationship with his ex-girlfriend.”
    Surviving Death ch26:7708-7776
  6. Paul's confirmation left Jackson with a chill and a sense of awe about the reading's accuracy.
“I felt a chill run through my body. What was Paul telling me? That Chris was coming to me from the beyond? That I was hearing from a dead person as clearly as if he was right in my apartment? At that moment, I felt awe.”
    Surviving Death ch26:8087-8302
  7. Chris told Auerbach he had seen Lois almost daily for over a year and a half, since first waving back at her.
“Chris, on the other hand, told me himself that he had been seeing her almost every day for more than a year and a half, since that first time he waved back at her.”
    Surviving Death ch31:20995-21154
  8. Chris, a twelve-year-old boy, related Lois's family and house history, saying he had learned it from her.
“We finished the tour, which included hearing some history of Lois, her family, and the house, which Chris learned from Lois. For a twelve-year-old, Chris was an articulate purveyor of anecdote.”
    Surviving Death ch31:21813-21997
  9. Chris's accounts of Lois's family and outside activities went beyond what psychometric perception of the house could explain.
“However, Chris (really Lois, through Chris) was including some stories about Lois’s family and activities that took place outside the home.”
    Surviving Death ch31:22432-22566
  10. The group sat in a semicircle facing Chris, seated by the empty easy chair he said was Lois's favourite, to ask her questions.
“We ended up in the living room and sat down in a semicircle facing Chris, to ask Lois some questions. Chris was seated next to an empty easy chair he identified as Lois’s favorite spot to sit.”
    Surviving Death ch31:23114-23302
  11. Chris translated Lois's answers during the sitting but was not in any kind of trance state.
“In essence, he was functioning as a medium, even though most mental mediumistic interactions with ostensible deceased spirits do not involve extensive, clear, two-way conversations like this one (and Chris was not in any kind of trance state).”
    Surviving Death ch31:23611-23847
  12. Pat considered whether Chris had found and memorised diaries, but could not see how that was possible.
“Pat had considered whether Chris had found and memorized diaries that would have provided such stories, but she could not imagine how that was possible.”
    Surviving Death ch31:22572-22715
  13. An elderly cousin of Lois's later verified as true the information about her youth, family, and house that Chris had given.
“I spoke with him, and he verified the information about Lois’s youth and life as true, as well as facts about the family and Lois’s house that Chris said Lois provided.”
    Surviving Death ch31:29564-29723
  14. The information Chris provided was recorded on tape before any attempt was made to verify it.
“We had a tape of the information Chris provided from Lois, recorded when we were present before any attempts were made to verify the information.”
    Surviving Death ch31:29734-29867
  15. When Auerbach began family anecdotes to the cousin, she repeatedly finished them matching what Chris had said.
“In a number of instances, as I began some of the family-related anecdotes, he finished the stories for me, in a manner that corresponded to the information Chris had given me.”
    Surviving Death ch31:30296-30468
  16. Pat carried out thorough checks for diaries or papers Lois might have left; none was found.
“Pat conducted even more thorough checks to see if Chris had somehow found diaries or other papers Lois might have left behind. None was ever found.”
    Surviving Death ch31:30472-30613
  17. Through Chris, Lois asked Joanna Rix whether she had really thought about the job she wanted after quitting.
““Joanna, have you really thought about the kind of job you want after you quit the one you have?”
    Surviving Death ch31:28137-28227
  18. Through Chris, Lois asked Kip Leyser how long he had been a professional dancer.
““Kip, how long were you a professional dancer?””
    Surviving Death ch31:28235-28273
  19. Auerbach concluded telepathy by either Chris or Lois was a reasonable explanation for the group's experience.
“We concluded that either Chris (or Lois) read our minds while we were there or that Lois somehow really was present in the car with us. No matter what, telepathy by either Chris or Lois would have been enough to explain this and seems a reasonable interpretation.”
    Surviving Death ch31:29086-29334
  20. Auerbach considered perceptual insertion plausible: Lois projecting perceptions into Chris's mind rather than being seen or heard directly.
“To me, this explanation made much sense. It meant that Lois was aware that she was literally telling Chris’s mind what to perceive. They were not really, visually, seeing or hearing Lois.”
    Surviving Death ch31:25338-25520
  21. Auerbach judged an interacting apparition more likely than Chris being a super-psychic using clairvoyance or retrocognition.
“But since there were other witnesses to Lois actually manifesting visually, a heavier emphasis can legitimately be placed on the former possibility rather than the latter. Add to that Chris’s utter lack of any other psychic perceptions or experiences, and I think we’re left with a likely apparition as opposed to a one-note super-psychic.”
    Surviving Death ch31:31549-31880
  22. The family involved were well adjusted and had no psychological difficulties over the recurring visits.
“The family members were well adjusted, got along well with one another, and were seemingly without psychological issues about the unusual recurring visits by this apparition.”
    Surviving Death ch31:31890-32053
  23. Chris kept seeing Lois daily for a while but lost interest as he grew up and discovered real girls.
“Chris continued to see Lois on a daily basis for a while, but then lost interest as he grew up and discovered (and was discovered by) real girls.”
    Surviving Death ch31:30621-30760
  24. Auerbach considered the verified information sufficient to rule out normal sources of information.
“First, the verified information was enough under the circumstances to convince me that normal sources of information could be ruled out.”
    Surviving Death ch31:31230-31362
  25. Jesse DeLuca is a wildlife filmmaker from Quebec, Canada, using a drone and cameras.
“jesse's also from quebec and he likes to go out there and film sort of like wildlife with his drone or with his cameras and take a lot of photos”

  28. At half playback speed, the object covers the field and shoots away in about four seconds.
“This is half speed right now. ... Half speed, you just saw it in the field. And at half speed, it's about four seconds. ... It goes up and then just shoots in a straight line.”
UAP Caught on Drone in 4K! - DEBRIEFED ep. 5 00:13:39.4-00:13:57.5
  29. Chris considered the object's near-ground movement to resemble an insect grazing rather than a bird's flight.
“there is a point where it looks like it's kind of grazing or it's kind of like hanging out down there we don't really know what it's doing... To me, it is moving around like an insect would.”
