William Cohen

Former United States Senator who was later appointed United States Secretary of Defense, whose Senate legislative assistant, Christopher K. Mellon, followed him into the Pentagon in 1997.

William Cohen was a United States Senator whose staff included Christopher K. Mellon, who worked as a legislative assistant to Cohen before Cohen later became Secretary of Defense.1 According to Luis Elizondo, during Cohen’s time in the Senate, Mellon was his closest advisor on Capitol Hill.2

In 1997 Cohen was appointed Secretary of Defense, and Mellon followed him into the United States Pentagon as a member of the new Secretary’s transition team.3

According to Elizondo, once Cohen took up the post, he brought Mellon onto his staff at the United States Department of Defense (DoD) as one of his trusted principals.4
