William J. Clinton

William J. Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States, whose administration made documented enquiries into Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) records and who has since spoken publicly about the possibility of extraterrestrial visitation.

42nd President of the United States · 1993-2001

William J. Clinton served as the 42nd President of the United States, taking office in 1993. On becoming president that year, he asked questions about Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), following the same course as Jimmy Carter had in 1977.1 On entering The White House in 1993, both Clinton and Hillary Clinton took a strong interest in the subject.2 After lobbying from billionaire businessman Laurance Rockefeller, described as a UAP believer, Clinton ordered his newly appointed Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director James Woolsey to release more files on the subject.3

Clinton later acknowledged that he had aides research Area 51 “to make sure there was no alien down there”.4 His Associate Attorney General, Webster Hubbell, said he was asked by the president to find out who was behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy and whether Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) were real.5 Ross Coulthart has said that Clinton dispatched Hubbell in connection with his interest in UAP,6 and that as president Clinton took a close interest in the subject, asking whether the United States had retrieved craft, without getting anywhere.7 Clinton also pushed for the 1995 General Accounting Office review of the Roswell incident, which examined all the papers on the subject.8 According to the Report on the Historical Record of U.S. Government Involvement with Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), Volume I, press reports indicated that Clinton tasked former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger with determining whether the US government held aliens or alien technology.9

In a 2014 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Clinton said that if he saw that aliens existed, he would tell the public, adding, “If we were visited someday, I wouldn’t be surprised."1011 He has stated that while he was president, every attempt was made to find out everything about the 1947 Roswell Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) crash.12 Clinton said that, as far as he knew, no alien spacecraft crashed in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947 as part of the Roswell incident (1947), that if the United States Air Force had recovered alien bodies they did not tell him, and that he wanted to know.13 He has also said that many mysteries remain unexplained, and that this should keep people humble.14 When told by Jimmy Kimmel in March 2015 that Clinton had said he checked and found nothing regarding UFOs, Barack Obama replied, during the 2015-03 Obama Jimmy Kimmel Live interview on aliens, that saying there was nothing is what presidents are instructed to say.15

John Podesta, a political consultant, served as Clinton’s Chief of Staff in the White House from 1998 to 2001;16 he went on to serve as counselor to President Barack Obama and, later, as campaign manager to Hillary Clinton.17 During his time in the Clinton White House, Podesta secured Executive Order 12958, which declassified millions of pages of national security documents, including many UAP files.18

Steven Greer has said that when he sent a briefing document to Clinton, the response he received was that the president could not get anywhere with UFOs and did not want to push the issue, because a close friend had warned him he would end up assassinated like John F. Kennedy.19 Jonathan Caplan has said it became known in intelligence circles that a non-human craft had landed in the Russian Federation by arrangement during the Clinton administration,20 and that Clinton, as president, was apprised of the incident.21 Caplan considers that Clinton probably knows more about non-human craft retrieval than he has let on.22
